Slow Internet speeds?

Hello my internet speed is 1.9mb/s

But all of my download speeds are very slow (like 165-200 in bit torrent and other regular downloads). I live with a few other people who use their ipods on the wifi and my laptop and a mac are also cnnected to the network. Even when nobody is using the network (2am) it still has that same speed. I have an airport extreme router and a linksys router what can i do to get the better speed?

Also my friend has the exact same internet cnnect at his house and i get 1.5mb/s

It's not just torrents. It's downloading other things (game patches, even games on steam)

do you mean your download speed is 1.9mb/s or 1.9 MB/s? 1.9 mb/s = around 237 KB/s

No i get speeds of 170-250 KB/s and i have a 2mb connection

A 2mb connection probably means 2mbps, which is 2048kbps. divide 2048 by 8 to get your real download speed, which is 256KB/s

You're getting exactly what you pay for.

170 -250 KB/s is about right on a 2mb/s connection.
if you need more speed, you need to ask for faster speed connections

You call your provider and ask what the price for higher speeds are and if you can afford it then you place an order for the higher speed.

Marketing is to blame. Like when I called and set up my comcast 20M-bit-ps connection the woman asked would you like the 12 or 20 meg connection which is what people fall for, they intenionally dont finish that word because the following question is what is a bit. Internet connection speeds are measured in bits, with there being 8 bits in 1 byte. Bytes are the unit of measure you would be used to. The easy way to tell is if its 2 MB or 2 Mb that you are getting with little 'b' being bits. My 20 Mbps is actually 20Mbps/(8b/B) in which case the bits cancel out leaving 20/8 MBps (2.5MB) downstream. Hope this helps and wasnt confusing.

Ya that's like a 750 Kb/s connection. Total garbage town when it comes to the marketing side of things. Comcast is coming out with a 105 Mb/s connection( I CANT WAIT TO GET IT), don't get me wrong it is beyond fast but I think that a fair advertisement of 13 1/8 MB/s would be better. Just think tho what you could do with 13 mega bytes coming down per second! Far from the 105 they would have you believe it is. Seriously the next time you see an internet service ad on tv listen to it and the will call it 20 meg or 7 meg and they wont tell you its in bits. I have friends to this day even after hearing this that still fall for it. Should be outlawed!

You guys are lucky, the fastest speed my ISP claims my household can Have is 1.5Mbps.

While my neighbors have freakin 20Mbps... -.-
