i have comcast cable and for some reason when i try and download something from a website its is very slow. I know there are alot of different factors but 50kps is really bad. Sometimes it goes as high as 700kps. Are there any settings i can change to get the most out of my conection.

With cable your speed will slowdown if say 20 other people on your rt is downloading something at the same time, I have 10mb dsl and have never had a server that slow before, I have had downloads as slow as 250 to 300 kbps but thats about it! I would have to think that every kid in your neighborhood was downloading songs and playing games when you have speeds that slow!
