hi all...
i have dial up connection for my internet which is bloody slow - 50.6kbps. Because i live in a remote area i cant get broadband and have to pay a fortune for other faster access. i was told you can download free web accelerators that can 'boost' your modem to make it faster. has anyone heard of this or know what are some good free programmes???

thankyou in advance.

Honeslty you really cant get your Dial-up to go any faster then it already is. There are few programs that may be able to optimise your computer for the internet but not exactly increase the speed. There is also programs such as Download Accelerator plus which may download faster then normal becuase it searches for available mirrors giving the best possible download speeds that your modem is capable off.

And then there are those programs that download off of multiple servers to get the best performance.

You call that slow? I would kill for speeds like that. I'm connected at 33.6Kbps at the moment, and I dont get this fast all that often. It's usually 28.8 or 26.4. But, then again. I'm in out back Australia, with an old phone line.

Thats true, you cant really increase the speed. All dial-up accelerators do is compress the size of the text and images, which reduces the quality but makes the pages load faster.

And download accelerators work a little different then you said. What they actually do is they have multiple connection to a server, so its like downloading 4 different parts of the file at once (with internet explorer its only 1 connection). And since its downloading multiple parts at once, it increases the speed.

basically it. along with that, most just stores the pages that you visit most and then recall them back when you decide to go on it. so, unless it checks for changes, you will have to refresh to see new info, if any.
