Hi guys neewb here! After formatting my hard drive and re-installing XP home, my computer is still somewhat slow. I did restore some of my files and what not, but I still think my pc should be a lot faster. Do you guys think it's any of my system processes? I have a p4 2.80 ghz with 512 ddr.

Here's my sys. processes:

Try uninstalling all the files and programs that you don't need or use, and if you play some of the newer games, a memory upgrade would be a good idea.

how do you clean out your computer.

Soap and Water be sure to scrub real hard on the motherboard.....

Disclamer: Do not at any time do any of the above suggested ways to clean your computer.

what does that do

Run MSCONFIG then go the the menu all the way to the right and it should say start up i think and it lists all of the programs that boot up when the computer boots up. simply unclick programs that you know what thay are and don't want them to start automaticaly and this will speed up your boot time. (NOTE: If you run Windows 2000 you do not have msconfig in you system and have to copy the files for it from windows xp)

WOW thanks a lot guys! I did a de-frag last night and got rid of a lotta files that I did not need when I restored them. It seem'd to help a hell of a lot! And I unchecked about 12 things from the msconfig box. Is there anything else that I could do to optimize my system processes? Any programs or such? Again THANK YOU!!!

You could also go to the administrative controlls and go through the serves and pick out things you dont need to turn on, like telnet and stuff like that. :D just make sure you read the description of what your turning off.
