Slow Performance... dont know why

Hi everyone, I just recemtly got my computer up and running, but there is some shotty performance and I cant quite put my finger on it. Here are the specs:

Antec P180
Asus P5K Deluxe WiFi
Intel Core2Quad Q6600 G0
Corsair XMS2 1G x 2 5-5-5-15 800mhz
EVGA 8800GTS 640MB
OS: Vista Ultimate 32 Bit

I think the problem is stemming in the RAM department. I have it installed in A1 and B1 on the mobo as it looked in the instruction manual, they are both detected. I know this is probably not the best reader for ram usage, but that Vista sidebar gadget would show the ram skyrocketing to 99% used and thne drop and i can use it for a second. but then it will go way up. also, the videos on my computer play very slow, but again I believe this is just a result of the ram being used by something (i dont know what it is, if it is the case)

Thanks for the help!

I think its the memory... 1GB and an Q6600 + 8800 does not work out well. Vista usually takes 1/3 or more of RAM it idle... I suggest upgrading to 2 GB

I think he meant he had 2gb when he said 1G x 2, but you probably lost it in the CAS latency.

Its weird, that setup should work pretty well. What HDD and PSU do you have ?

I think i have the same problem. But i have my 2 gigs set up tyo 4-4-4-5 @ 800 mhz. I came on to post a simular post. However, i dont have any apps to monitor ram usage.

I have a core 2 duo
Gigabyte DS3
G. Skill 1 gb x 2 @ 4-4-4-5 800 mhz
radeon 1900gt
samsung spin t 500 gb
ocz gamestream psu
Windows XP.

simular set up (in a way) and i believe the problem stems from the same thing, ram.

edit: i also have my system oc'd to 415 mhz FSB with a 2.0 multiplier on the ram.

Oh now I see. it.. 2GB and those other parts should work like an dream. What PSU?

Post above:

Please dont steal his thread, please make another one...

And to answer your questoin, Task Manager has an plaese where you can see how much RAM is availabe and is being used.
