Slow Startup

When I boot my computer, it starts up normally until after the windows logo part with the bars going across. After it does this, the screen goes black for about 30 seconds. The screen then shows the login screen and the computer works normally. Does anyone have any ideas why the screen would go black for so long? Any help with this is appreciated.

Are you overclocking or anything? System specifications?

Do you have a lot of programs that run at startup, ie.. aim or msn messanger?

That's out of the question. The screen goes black and then appears on the login screen, thus meaning a login hasn't even occured yet.

I have:
Athlon 64 3200+,
EPoX EP-9NPA+Ultra NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra mobo,
1 gig Corsair value ram,
Geforce 6600 GT, and
Maxtor DiamondMax 10 200GB SATA150 Hard Drive

I am not overclocking at all.

I had the same problem, it would say Intel pentium IIII for exactley 3 min. That lasted for about 2weeks. Then after I defraged using the intelligent degragmentaion or whatever its called by system mechanic. The problem was fixed. Don't know if it was that that did it but go http://www.iolo.com/sm/6/index.cfm and get the free trial its fully functional and is amazing relay, helped my computer.

is there any faults or problems you are having? does everything work ok though?
if not, i personally wouldn't worry about it.

it can be your motherboard. I have a Syntax and prior to booting, it shows white screen going across, then blacks out for about 10-15 seconds, then shows the logo, then logs in.

well I've tried everything suggested and it still does it, but possible for a less amount of time. Oh well. Thanks for your help.
