Slower after adding HD

So, I added a 20GB and a 40GB hard drive to my computer and things seem to be going a little slower. Is this natural?

Both drives are IDE :(
I formatted them before I put them in

All the time.
Im not using them to run windows. Iwas hoping to use one for music and one for backing up a few files. Ill mess around a bit more, it may be better now. idk lol.

Just took forever to load firefox so first thing i did was complain on CF of course. ;)
