Slowest modern hard drive

Well if you didnt run it in PIO mode you wouldnt be running with 9MB/s :P As for slowest drives, i've notched mine down to to about 15-40K/s running loopback FTP server and xfering several thousand small files :P

Also, these past 2 days Norton Auto-Protect has DIED.
Programs, in general (and especially with proggies like NAV which require higher than normal uptime) do not "just" die.

My BIOS is limited, so I don't think that's an option of transfer speed for BIOS
Its a feature found on 386 and 486 mobos ..... "limitations" dont encompass PIO/DMA

I believe recent viruses have destroyed
Got any evidence to suggest this? :)

What do you mean died? I've actualy seen this twice b4 and it's true it just died (would not run) but then again Norton would not run all together :-). both times it was a virus that killed Norton which I found kinda ironic.

I really have to stop double posting! sorry everyone. Actualy thinking about it, I dont know if a virus actualy killed Norton that 2 times or if norton quit working for some other reason and a virus got through because of it. It sure seemed like it though because the one time Norton warned of a virus that it could not fix just b4 it died and the other there was nothing and a free online virus scan picked up a virus.

BIOS readings

Digging deep into the properties of the master single Maxtor hard drive, the BIOS says:

LBA Mode Control Enabled
Multi-Sector Transfers 16 sectors
Cable detected 80 conductor
PIO Mode 4
Ultra DMA Mode 5

I cannot change anything for the properties listed in the BIOS. It seems the manufacturer did this. And, would getting a better ribbon cable (ATA 133) make a difference...cuz I just researched 80 cunductor and maybe only that'll work?

EDIT--Two months ago I reinstalled Windows XP, reinstalled ALL drivers, chipset, video, controllers, etc. Everything seems okay. Yes, all DMA modes. Always has been. Hard drive: DMA mode 5 ultra CD-RW: DMA mode 4. I believe everything is maxed out so far. Cool
