Sluggist Windows Help

Hi,

My computer seems really sluggish when I compare it to my father in laws, both machines are running windows XP pro however the spec of mine is far higher than his.

can any one give me some advise as to a possible reason why and solutons?

Dell Pentium 4 2.6
1GB 533DDR2 RAM
500GB Hard Drive
Inbuilt Graphics.
