Hi

I need to connect 4 separate offices to the same file server remotely. To achieve this the offices will be connected over the internet with BT ADSL using LAN to LAN VPN routers with the following IP
configuration

Location 1
Router internal IP Address 192.168.20.254
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0

Location 2
Router internal IP Address 192.168.21.254
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.255

Location 3
Router internal IP Address 192.168.21.254
Subnet Mask 255.255.0.0

Location 4
Router internal IP Address 193.208.22.254
Subnet Mask 255.0.0.0

I have been told VPN connections wont work? is this correct? why would this not work? what kind of routers would I need?

Thanks
Scott

edited the video as i copied the wrong link in my previous post

a VPN would work,

lets say the file server you have is in one of the 4 buildings and the other buildings have there own LAN's, all you would need for the other computers in the other buildings is to set a vpn connection to the file server

firstly you would need to set up a vpn server on the fileserver computer

add the vpn port to your port forwarding table in your router

set up a vpn connection on one of your computers to connect to the fileserver

but here is a video step by step guide -

Just another thought - if you have a little bit of budget you could get an IPVPN.
We've done this for a few clients around our Westminster office in London.

The idea is one provider provides all the broadbands and joins them together for you. Slightly faster than doing it yourself (less overhead) and a lot easier and more resilient.

It used to be for bigger stuff but I think people like Zen would probably offer you a decent price for four broadbands.
