Small Problem

Hey everybod,
I had a small problem today. I have an older (A few years old) Dell Dimension XPS B733r computer. I also have an even older Dell, which I used the monitor from. So I took the monitor from the even older Dell, and tried to hook it up to the Dimension XPS. It worked for the initial set-up, but once it got into Windows 2000 the screen went black and it had that orange light, likt it was on stand-by. I re-booted in VGA mode, then in Safe Mode. In those modes the monitor worked the whole time. I tried re-installing drivers, but it didn't work. I finally put the original Dimension XPS monitor back on, and it worked fine, so I know it's not a problem with the computer. I was just wondering why it's doing this. Is it because the monitor is too old? I was going to use it on my new computer that I'm building. Will it work? I hope this post isn't too confusing. Any help would be great.

Thanks,
Derek

boot into safe mode and select a low resolution such as 640 x 480... then you should be able to get into windows and be able to see it.. oh make sure you select 60Hz as your refresh rate

The resolution was just set too high for the previous monitor. As Hair_Lee said, just boot up in safe mode and reduce it.
