SO if your system boots jsut fine after overclocking what happens if

Like the topic says

I overclocked to 4.0 from 2.66 on my quad core exterme.

system runs fine now but when i run 3dmark, it freezes on the cpu test 1 on 3dmark. what do u do in this situation? lower the clock? or lower the voltge of the CPU core

You need to lower the clock by a fair amount.

You need to run 4 instances of Prime to check for stability, and that the CPU isn't too hot under full load (let it get too hot, and it'll die prematurely).
