So... new motherboard

Around october/christmas I'll be getting birthday money and such. I'm planning on building an AMD based system.

For now I've decided on the Athlon II X4 630 and some G.Skill DDR3 Ripjaws, which gives me a total of $254 AUD so far.

What's up in the air is the motherboard. I was looking at the following boards:

Which one would be the best choice? I'm thinking the Asus or ASRock one but the gigabyte ones are also tempting. Crossfire ability would be nice...

I'd go for the Asus motherboard. Ive been using this brand for all of my systems and I can testify to its "rock-solid stability". I've noticed that it is the only board without an onboard graphics if you would consider that a drawback.

Try to get a 635 or 640 if you can...they're available in C3 stepping. Be careful though, as there's a C2 635 as well...I made that mistake. :(

Of those motherboards, I'm pretty sure none of them can xfire...

Does C3 stepping really matter that much? this will be my first AMD system since Socket A :o

Besides i'll be using the stock cooler for a while... meaning no overclocking.

none of those can crossfire. they all only have 1 pci-e slot.

c3 stepping really helps with overclocking.

id get the asus 870 out of those, but if i was going to buy id get the 890GX by gigabyte:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...5&cm_re=gigabyte_890gx-_-13-128-435-_-Product

that board can crossfire, i really wouldn't need to but its there if necessary

that board looks pretty good. it is a bit more, but it can do crossfire. the crossfire will only be 8x 8x, but unless you are crossfiring big gpus, like 2 5870s, you'll won't notice any difference.

EDIT: oh wait, the asus can do crossfire. i didn't see the black pci-e slot :P

^ I'm still not seeing it...huh?

C3 matters in overclocking, but it also helps in other areas. My RAM is rated at 7-8-7, but because of the C2 memory controller, 8-8-7 is as low as I can go without it failing to boot.

thanks for that, i think i will!

EDIT: bought. thanks for that buzz! really appreciate it!
