So the question is...

Are you sure the drive was causing the overheating, maybe it was just blocking air flow in which case adding any drive will cause overheating.

good point. i have just made the assumption that it was the hdd and too much power. the reason that i thought this could be the case is that...

i have 2 dvd drives installed and only one of them at a time can be used. i mean connected to my tower. when i have them both connected they do not appear in my computer or work.

what do you suggest about the hdd?

Thanks man!

For the dvd drives do you have them set to master/slave properly?

For the drive, if you put the 2nd one in the case but don't power it does your computer still overheat?

well they are both in at the moment but only one is being used. so if i put the a hdd in so i have 2 and take out my other DVD drive could this have been the problem with the overheating? thanks for getting my brain working!! going to test it out now!

:-)

I wasn't really clear, you have 2 drive problems. What I meant to say was, if you put both hard drives in (and keep both your opticals in) but you only attach 1 hard drive (that is to say, it's mounted in the case but not plugged in) do you still have overheating problems?

The dvd problem you are having sounds like they are not set as master and slave properly. You can leave both dvd drives in.

Hmmmmmmm
