why are socket 1366 mobos really expensive, as if i were to build a new computer i would definatley get a mobo that supports usb3 and firewire 3 aka 6Gbps

They're expensive because they're higher tech and lower volume. Simple as.

The X58 chipset, and 32 lanes of PCI-E.

Physically more RAM slots and more PCI-E slots, and the built in capability to run both.

At Newegg, they're not all "that" expensive.
