socket 754 vs socket 939

Depends on if you want intel or amd, I personally would get a socket 939
There both AMD.

939 is the newest, and it also supports the latest technologies, as well as dual-core.

754 was like a stepping stone from socket A to socket 939. S754 supports semprons and athlon 64's. S939 supports Athlon 64, Athlon X2's, FX series and Opterons. S754 does NOT support dual channel when the S939 does.

Heya

If you want a budget system with solid performance, the 754 will suffice. In terms of performance, there is minimal difference when comparing the same processor models. The dual channel advantage also brings rather insignificant real performance increase. However, socket 939 is a better overall solution.

Yes

Indeed, the 754 does not have dual channel capabilities. However, that missing only translates to minimal performance decrease over the 754.

If you can fit in socket 939 in your budget, theres no reason to get socket 754. Socket 939, as said before, supports dual channel, dual core, a 1000Mhz hypertransport bus, and the ability to run 4 DS DIMMS in DDR400.
