Socket Question

It's been a while since I've built a system I feel so out of touch. I can get a an I3 560 for $20, however looking on the website I see there aren't any socket 1156 boards. Is this an out of date socket? Will this chip fit another socket? TIA.

Well it's better then what I have now lol. Will it fit any other socket?

Hmmm, they also have a Intel G3220 for $30, should I go for that one instead?

Just make it faster for cheap. I went there and they were sold out of both so I guess I'll stalk ebay for a good deal.

1156 died really quickly.

What budget do you have? Other than blindly trying to pick up whatever you think are the cheapest parts we could give you a more accurate estimate or suggestion.

Like $150 CAD max. Money is tight, this machine can't even run full screen youtube videos. It's been a long time since I've posted on this site. It's so much better now.

Upon further inspection $150 is low for an Intel setup. What's a good AMD setup for cheap-ish?

150 CAD won't really get you much of anything that's new as any new board and CPU will also need newer RAM. Even this entry level AMD motherboard, CPU, and RAM combo I came up with is 186 CAD

You could probably chuck some more RAM in your current build, 2 GB is really dated at this point. Even my router has 8 GB..

DDR2 Ram is expensive and hard to find, I don't know if it would work with my current RAM. I recently did a fresh install of Windows 7, it upgraded it to 10 for free which made things run more smoothly and stable than before.

Take a squint at this ...

It's huge, REALLY HUGE @ 4320 x 6120 pixels, so ya gotta really zoom in to see the text. Best bet is to download it from it's location and use a picture program to do the zooming

That'd be a sweet poster if it was cleaned up a little bit.

Ha ha, that's awesome, thanks. I'll pull my RAM later when I'm not to lazy and use this wonderful picture. Will doubling my RAM make a big difference?

It's more than a tad out of date thought. "future" USB 3.0. :D

usb 3.0 ??? USB 3.0 ?!?! we don' need no stinkin' USB 3.0 !!! We got USB 3.1 !!!! :p

Well ... Just have to change the title to " Legacy Computer Hardware Chart", then !!! :D

Yeah, if you find compatible RAM, Maxing it out for the M/B couldn't hurt !!!

Run this >>> System Information Viewer

This program may help ya ID yer RAM. (Just keep pushing tabs till ya get what yer looking for ! hint: click "SPD" tab drop down arrow, then " DIMMs " tab, should give you enough info to do a little shopping.) It is an“All You Need to Know About Your PC, But Where Afraid to Ask !! “ type of program … Belarc Advisor may also help. (it's a bit more simpler to read on what it finds,,,) Both Freeware.

Also Run the Windows Task Manager on the " performance " tab ( If Win 10 still has one!), It'll show you on a graph what the CPU cores load is and RAM usage in real time (Correct if i'm wrong, people, but i usually recommend upping RAM if it's around , oh , 60% used, at idle)
