Software Defective for RCA VR5320R Digital Voice Recorder

Greetings.

I recently bought an RCA VR5320R Digital Voice Recorder, which came with a CD to install the software. I installed it, but it hasn't worked properly.

Normally, once the software has been installed and the digital recorder is connected to the USB port, it ( the software ) will recognize that there are digital files in the recorder and a box will appear asking the user if they want to import the files.

As of now, nothing appears when I connect the recorder. I also went to the RCA site and downloaded their software, but still got the same result.

I suspect the software or some drivers in it are defective. Does anyone have an idea where I can download something for free that might repair this? Or does anyone have any other suggestions on what I can do?

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm just assuming that the auto play feature is broken. What operating system are you using?

Windows XP, but even when i click on the desktop icon shortcut it brings up the software, but still doesn't bring up the box that asks me if i want to import the files.

It's like the software DOESN'T recognize that the recorder has the digital files inside.

I used this same type of recorder a year ago ( before my computer was stolen ) and the box always came up.

Hi John.

I downloaded the software and installed it. When I tried to run it I got a message saying that the type of drive I have doesn't support autoplay.

I've enclosed a picture to show you what the detachable drive looks like. I just bought this computer used 2 weeks ago.

Try running sfc/ scannow at a command prompt. Note: there is a space between the / and the s.

To open a command prompt do the following.

Click start, click on run, type cmd and hit enter. When the black screen pops up. Type the following.

sfc /scannow

This command will check the xp installation for missing or corrupt files. You may need the xp install cd in the cdrom drive if it finds anything missing or corrupt.

OK thanks. I'll do this tomorrow when I have more.time. Thank you always John and the rest of this forum for all of your invaluable help.

I did the scan you requested and got this message:

Files that are required for Windows to run properly must be copied to the DLL Cache.

Insert your Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 CD now.

========================

I bought this computer used 1 month ago from a shop and was never given a CD of Windows XP.

Is there anything else I can do?

I just went into the "My Computer" tab on my computer and then clicked on the "Removable Disk (E)" drive and see that it shows all of the digital files that are on my digital recorder and I can access them.

Does that prove that the Auto Play feature is defective?

Yes, It means the auto play feature is corrupt somehow. If you can find an XP Sp3 cd then you can use it to fix whatever the program says is bad. However, since you are running XP then you are better off upgrading to Windows 7 if your system specs will allow it or save money to buy an updated pc with windows 7 or 8 on it.

Another option is if you can tell me the name of some safe and good software where I can simply convert the VOC files to WAV files.

Since I can manually retrieve them from the E drive, that might be my best solution.

That would be better answered by someone else. I don't use converters, don't trust them.
