Software Not Working On Windows 7 64-Bit

Hi,

I have recently got a new computer at work which is running Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit. The operating system on the old computer was Windows XP Professional 32-Bit.

Most software I have tried to install so far works OK, except the design program used to run the Vinyl Plotter; which is SignBlazer Pro 5.5.

It says it won't install because the system is not 32-Bit and even when I try to install it using compatibility mode (as Windows XP) it still refuses to install.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can install the software?

Thanks.

The biggest majority of programs will run on 32 or 64 bit machines, but there is the odd one that is 32 or 64 bit specific maybe you could try the manufacturers website and see if they have a 64 bit version.

As far as I am aware the software is no longer available due to the developer passing away.

Maybe a ver is available for 7 32bit or Vista 64 or 32bit. one of those you might get to run. I have a Microtek scanmaker and could not get it to run. I checked for updates again and seen windows 7 32bit so i will try that. maybe i will get lucky.

I don't know much about that particular software, but you could virtualise a 32bit version of Win 7 and run it in a sandbox environment.

I would have to buy a copy of Windows XP though wouldnt I?
No. Since you have Win 7 Pro, you can download from MS what is called "XP Mode". It consists of 2 things. It's MS Virtual PC that will create a virtual machine AND it will automatically install a fully-licensed copy of XP Pro in that virtual machine.

You can download XP mode here.

The software installs when using the 'XP Mode' but it won't recognise the USB Serial Key Dongle in 7 but does in 'XP Mode'.

And Ideas?

Isn't XP mode where you want to run the plotter? If the dongle is recognized there and that is where you want to run the plotter, what is the issue?

It would just be nice if it worked in 7 too. ;)
Regarding VMs and USB ports, you can allow the host OS (Win 7 in your case) access to the USB port or you can allow the Guest OS access (XP) but both can't have access at the same time. At the top of the XP Mode window there is a dropdown menu labeled "USB", there you can select "Share" to give access to the Guest or "Release" to give access back to the Host.

I just managed to get SB Pro 5.5 to install on Windows 7, what issues were you having? The only problem I have now is I can't find the password for the software install - anyone any ideas???!! I have the dongle but not the password.

Why you need a dongle and a password is beyond me!

The dongle is to prevent software pirating and the password is to prevent unautherized access to the software. Does that make sense?:D
