Software raid 1+0?

I'm just toying around with the idea of using windows 7 software raid to make a raid 1+0 array with 4 drives. I know you can use the 7 disk manager to make separate raid 1 arrays, and separate raid 0 arrays, but can window 7 disk manager do raid 1+0 or would I have to go with a hardware solution?

I do not think so. I'm pretty sure that the software in Windows 7 can join disks to make a larger space, but RAID in general needs to be taken care of on the hardware level. Either from your motherboard if it supports it. Or from a RAID controller.

I noticed that your motherboard already supports RAID 0,1,5 and 10 so you should be able to download the drivers from the manufacturer and build your RAID array from there.

7 can do raid 0 and raid 1, just to clear some things up, btw. I've heard its better to use software raid unless you purchase an actual controller (not the fake-raid that motherboards use) anyway. I'm just wondering if windows can also do raid 1+0, but I don't think it can...

And yeah, I know my motherboard can (or I could purchase a non fake-raid card). But I would hate to have to reinstall windows just to setup a (not even mandatory, it would be for funzies) raid array. Unless I can set up a raid 1+0 raid array while the OS is already installed?
