Software Recomendations

Let's see how to explain my question.

My kids have DVD's and computer games that they use at both my house and their mother's house. Often, there are times when they want to watch a movie or play a game and it is at their mother's (45 mintues away) :mad:.

When I purchased my PC, I included a DVD/CR burner so I could make copies of their games and movies. What I am finding out is that it does not allow me to backup DVD's or copy CD's that the software will recognize b/c of the software limitations that came with the system (Dell).

Now, I am told that backing up for personal purposes (such as this) is legal.

But what software is available to accomplish this?

It would be great to have one title that would copy DVD movies, CD games (PC) and burn MP3's. Does one exist?

Any ideas are appreciated....
 
you were incorrectly informed, it is in fact illegal to do these things and it isn't permitted to talk about this stuff on the forum, you can google most of this stuff though
 
im pretty sure dvd shrink will copy a DVD ignoring the copyright. (I dont see it as illegal if you already have bought the DVD.)
 
I was afraid there would a pissing contest on the forum about the legality of backing up DVD's/PC games for personal use.

I am not going to rent DVD's, take them home to make copies. I just want to make a copy to be available.

That is not what this topic is addressing.

I am not asking for an illegal copy of software to copy DVD/CD's.

I am only looking for a recomendation...
 
I realize I can 'google' this, and I already have.

I was looking for input from someone that already has this software that would provide a basis for my to make a decision on waht to buy.

Regardless of wether you see it as illegal or not, its not up to you, its up to what the law states. And yes, DVD shrink does bypass the copy protection, thus making it illegal. Hence the reason they removed the links for downloads of it from the webite, and instead put a note saying, "use google" or something to that extent. :)
 
For instance

Let's say you have a huge collection of DVD's resulting in thousands of dollars of cost to you when you bought them legally.

Let's also say, that for some reason, all these DVD's became ruined.

Would the MFG give you a new copy b/c you didn't have the legal right to create backups?

When you buy a DVD/Software, you are buying a license to use that product, and obviously, NOT the physical form in which it was bought. So, your agreement with that company is to only be able to use that product singly, meaning watching that movie bu itself. If that movie was being viewed at the same time a multiple places, then it would become a violation.
