Software that recovers deleted data?

Does anyone know the names of software programs that can recover data that has been deleted, like software that can recover data from a reformated(or erased) hard drive?

It doesn't take much to find a long list of both retail and freewares for that. One site with several freewares like Undelete Plus and Free Undelete is seen at http://www.snapfiles.com/Freeware/system/fwdatarecovery.html
