MTV has a software called MTV Music Generator, that should work for you. It's kind of old though, so I don't know how easy it will be to find it.

I use Cubase and I like it but it cost quite a bit. Here's one I found. Acoustica Beatcraft You can download a demo off the page. The full version costs $40.

in my music and audio class... we use cubase, reason and fruity loops... they are good software.. and you can do alot with them

i use reason to record, its the photoshop of audio. no doubt the best, i've got to try fruty sometime though, i hear its quite good too.
