Hello all,

I currently have about 600 DVDs myself and my partner have collected over the years and as u can imagine they take up a whole bookshelf and alot of room in the lounge id like to start copying to avi files and storing them on my network hard drive, so i can access them when ever i like through xbmc software, i do it with my music collection and pictures this way already so i can view them on the lounge tv.
I've used a few free versions of programs that will convert the DVD to an avi file but when u open it the shown image is smaller the the screen size and when i expanded to full screen it goes bigger but not to the edge of the screen, i presume it is because it have copied over that way.
I'm looking for a good bit of soft ware that will let me copy them over as a full screen image not a smaller box, im more than willing to pay for the software so it doesn't have to be free or shareware.

thank you, hope you can help :-)

I rip commercial DVDs with DVD Decrypter first to the Hard Drive, that removes the copy protection, then use DivX Create to convert them to avi files. DivX create usually just re encodes the Movie at whatever resolution the source file is in.

If you're looking to make copies of commercial DVDs by illegally getting around copy restrictions, that's a subject not allowed on this forum.

Win X does it well. I have used it before to make a digital copy I could use on my laptop without carrying a bunch of DVDs.
I do believe there are better free ones out there. There is one under Ubuntu, but I can't remember the name of it. Another thing that you might want to consider is that Walmart has a DVD to digital service at the photoshop booth. they charge $3 a movie though.

No im not illegally copying them i want to back up my dvd's, UK law lets you backup media which you have brought legally for the purpose of personal use. so i can store my actual dvds in the garage out of the way. im not sure what the rules are in the US etc but i have check over here :)
