software to download youtube clips to movie files?

Anyone know a software that downloads youtube to an MP4 or avi file? Or a similar file which will play in the VLC player etc?
 
What browser you running? I have Chrome. just go to chrome store (extensions) & search for " video downloader " and take yer pick
