I've been looking at getting a new Widescreen 22" monitor and I've noticed some have a maximum resolution of 1680x1050 and some are 1920x1080, why is this?

Also does 1920x1080 look a lot better than 1680x1050 on a 22" screen? Does 1680x1050 look fairly worse?

in 1920X1080 your getting cheated out of pixels... i would go with 1920X1200 thats full screen resolution. The companies do 1080 to market 1080P but its not a big deal... go find a 1920X1200 youl be happier
EDIT: i just looked up 22 inch monitors and im only seeing 1080, go look at some 24's their native resolution is 1920X1200 but for 22's i guess 1920X1080 is better than 1680

Things don't look better on the 1920x1080 monitor, they just look smaller. You're squeezing more pixels onto a screen the same size.

Ok thanks guys :)

Another question, would everything look smaller on a 22" widescreen on 1680x1050 than it does for me currently?

I'm on 17" with 1280x1024, I like the resolution I have now, 1024x768 looks big and ugly, I'm hoping 1680x1050 won't be the same on the 22" basically.

it should look very similar because although the resoltuion is higher, the size is also bigger.

You can work it out, work out how many pixels there are altogether on each monitor at full resolution, work out how much there is on a small square area, then multiply that by however much gives you the entire area of the screen. If they are equal or near equal, you got yourself stuff the same size on a bigger monitor :)

well... for a 22 inch... you wouldnt want 1680 cause you will be able to pick out the little pixels, out of those 2 resolutions for a 22 inch i would get 1920X1080
