Some Advice on my RDRam Problem

I'm new to this forum and would like to ask you guys for some advice :)

I have a Dell Dimension 8250 Desktop.

2.4 ghz

512 of RDRam

120 hardrive

I would like to upgrade my memory and add a dvd burder. RDRAM is pretty expensive compared to other types of memory. What I would like to know is whether this computer is worth upgrading. Someone suggested to me that I change the motherboard and get regular ram? I don't know a lot about PC's (slowly learning :) ) so I don't know how feesible that is.

Would I be better off buying 512 more of rdram, replacing the motherboard (not sure about this one), or waiting a year (in a year I should be able to fit one in my budget) and buy a new PC?

I'm just looking for some advice/feedback from those who know more about computers than I. I appreciate your time, thank you in advance :).

1. Upgrading a Dell mobo is pretty hard. Im almost positive a normal mobo wouldnt fit into a Dell case.

2. Dells are pretty hard to do any real upgrading on, so I would maybe upgrade the 512mb, which isnt hard. Then wait to do anything else and buy a new computer when you can.

You could buy a new mobo and but a new case that it will fit in and use all your hardware...you can get cases cheap I got mine for $29...then you have to look at other things like is your PSU supply enough power for your new board and dvd burner ect ect? If you buy a new mobo I assume you will also have to buy a new cpu...so basicly what you are looking at is buying a new mobo, cpu, ram, case and maybe a psu and possibly a windows cd because I am pretty sure your dell came preinstalled with windows and a recovery disk? = NEW COMPUTER...LOL!

I'd be inclined to put the money towards a new PC as well. RDRAM is heavily overpriced. With the money you'd save from the RAM, and the money you could get by selling the Dell, you're probably most of the way towards a cheap new computer anyway.
