Hi, i recently downloaded this program, and i realize its quite popular.... my question is, is it's registry cleaner completely safe? do i run any risk of messing anything up? And i see things it brings up such as unused file extensions....does this mean i will never b able to use those extensions?? I'm confused as to what exactly a registry cleaner does....and what can the negative affects be.... thanks... should i trust ccleaner?

I use CCleaner all the time and love it. Great little free program! It's never caused a problem on any of my machines.
The registry cleaner COULD cause problems, but even so, I just always make a backup of what I clean. So far, it's never been anything I've needed. I think there might of been one time it erased something minor from the registery I did need, but I just ran the backup and the problem was solved.

thanks for the response, but what exactly could go wrong? and how would i know it? would there be a message or something? ...also, the unused file extension things that i mentioned in my first post, what exactly does that mean?? will i not ever be able to use those extensions or something?

What could go wrong? Well...some programs have settings in the registery, so you might loose some settings. Some programs just plain won't work if something's removed incorrectly. There's a possibiltiy your computer won't boot, but I seriously doubt CCleaner would do THAT much to the registery...
Extension, like .JPG opens in photoshop. Worst that could happen is you'd have to tell it what program to open the file with. I get tons of those and remove them all without a problem...

will i see a significant performance boost? is it worth it? i've had the comp for under a year, but i have been installing and uninstalling quite a bit...
also, can someone explain to me exactly wat the registry keys it deletes do??
ex:
AxtiveX and class issues
applications
fonts
help files
run at startup
MUI Cache
and the other ones as well.... what does all that mean??
