Some keys on Compaq Notebook 100 no longer work

I gave away my old Compaq Notebook 100 to a friend of mine and he now complains that the keys k, l, o, p, 0, 9, 8 no longer work. He swears that nothing has been spilled onto the keyboard. The questions is, can this be repaired at little cost (he is a penniless student) or is it really goodbye?

Thanks very much for that useful information. However, the cheapest keyboard shown on that page is US$90.

Sorry, I didn't look at the prices...
I'm sure you could find cheaper keyboard. A friend of mine replaced the keyboard on his Compaq laptop some time ago and he bought the new one for only 25$.

some of the keys on my laptop, Dell Latitude CPx, wont work either, the i, 8, comma key, and k keys..i have a regular keyboard hooked up to it now, but its a pain. at first the keys would work, and then not work...and now, they dont at all. i havent spilled anything on my keyboard either. weird. i wanna get a desktop anyway, so im not too worried.
