some one please give me a solid answer

been tryin to figure this out but no deffinate answer yet so please someone give me a solid answer thank u
i have a 939 mobo w/ amd 64 3500 and 1 gig of ram. i dont realy play any games. but i do recode dvds alot and find that it takes me about 45-60 min to do 1 dvd. my friend has a pentium 4 w hyper threading running at 3.2ghz and does the same job in around 30-40 min. ive been thinking about upgrading my cpu to an amd x2 series, since recoding is a task done primarily by the cpu, and need to know if it would recode dvds faster than what it is doing now, or faster than my friends pentium 4. (does the cpu clock play a big role in this) or should i sell my systme and build a 775 platform with a pentium d 945 or pentium 4 w/ ht that runs around 3.4ghz (since thats what my budget will permit), since the intels clock speeds are higher. i would like to be able to multi task like download and listen to music and surf the web while recoding too. will somebody tell me which cpu would be ideal for these tasks, and most benificial, thank you so much for your final opinion about this

I would either get a new CPU, maybe a 4400 or 4600+ for your mobo, or get a new Core 2 Duo. An X2 will see a very good improvement doing that sort of thing, and if you dont want to get a new mobo and whatnot, will serve you fine.
