hi
for some reason every time i left click on a .AVI file or folder that has .AVI file in it my EXPLORER.EXE uses 100% of my cpu. (after laft click the file a little thing comes up that has the options like copy cut, delete. at this moment i can see my mouse in slow motion. )
i read some ware that the computer try to read the intire .AVI file or something like that. Is there anyway to disable this procese with out harming anyother thing that are running?
also some time when i laft click a folder my EXPLORER.EXE just restart it self after an error message ask me to sent a report. Anyone know what is causeing it? not all folders do that. some don't at one time but do at other time.

thanks

Yeah this ought to be disabled if you go into the registry

Open regedit and go to:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\.avi\shel lex\PropertyHandler
Delete the value you find there.

This is due to XP (explorer in particular) trying to create a preview
for it.

As usual, backup the registry key before deleting it.

I'm pretty sure that solves the problem of CPU usage, the other problem with this previewing is it prevents access and doesn't allow for the file to be deleted.
