Some Processors Not Going Down in Price

Roughly 4 years ago I put a Intel Core 2 Quad Processor Q9550 in my pc.

Looking at its current price, it's stayed the same which I never would have quessed. If could have seen this I would not have used it considering that all my clones and images are taken off it. Would have to get another one just like it, if it ever conks out. Would have gone with a basic mass produced processor instead - much more practical.

Yes, my Phenom II 945 has about the same processing power at your Intel processor. Learn your lesson and start buying Advanced Micro Devices processors. :D

Except for the fact that you can overclock the Q9550 further and destroy the AMD chip. Anyone who recommends AMD for CPUs right now needs to update their knowledge ;)

Two different philosophies between the companies.

Intel has high volume profits. Has alot more of end of life processors in the supply chain. Doesnt really care how long it takes to sell them. If you want to buy a Q9550 for 250 bucks, they will sell it to you. If you dont, they dont really care.

AMD has a low volume of profits. They want to get rid of end of life processors. One reason, its a short term profit boost. Second the quicker they are gone the quicker you start buying the next higher profit generation. So they are willing to sell you a Phenom II for 95 bucks just to get it out of the supply chain, so the next guy will buy the FX 4300 for 130 bucks.

Remember though that the Q9550 was released in Q1'08, it is older than the X4 965. :/

Look, even get the i3 2300. It will smash every AMD chip in gaming.

I think you're meaning something different, an i3 2300 doesn't exist :P.
You got i3 2300M series yes, but they don't smash all AMD's as far as I know in gaming terms...
If you're meaning the i3 2100 series, the fx6300, fx8320 and fx8350 are beating it at stock for gaming. And if you oc a bit, they smash the i3.
That said, an i5 (2nd or 3th gen) smashes every amd. The FX cpu's need a high oc to match with a stock i5.

Gaming isn't very depending on your cpu (unless it's a really cpu-intensive game), even the older quadcores with a reasonable clock speed are able to play nice settings paired with a good gpu. Altough some cpu's can be a bottleneck...

If I had the choice between an i3 2100 and an FX 6300, I would go for the fx, because it's not bottlenecking my gaming experience (the i3 isn't too though), overclocks well and has better performance in other aspects. The i3 will be only a bit faster in basic operations, you'll not really notice that.

Intel’s Core i3-2100 achieves 18% higher minimum frame rates (on average) and 11% higher average frame rates than AMD's FX-4100....Even a $200 FX-8120 won’t solve your problem; our tests show that chip acts just like the FX-4100 in gaming environments

which costs more, the 6 and 8 core amd or the 2 core ht enabled i3? hint hint nudge nudge...it isnt the intel chip, and the intel chip is entry level.

that for a long time beats everything AMD has. for gaming etc, the i3 is fine and the platform allows for significant upgrade.

Please tell me your talking about stock. The FX are all unlocked and will do 4.2/4.3 easy with a stock cooler and voltage. And if the FX are unlocked you cant just disregard that to fit you opinion. You can get a cheap decent cooler and get 4.5/4.6. Under that its not going to smash a AMD FX at much of anything. Whats the cheapest Intel thats unlocked, a 3570K for 215 buck, whats that 5 buck more then even the FX Vishera 8350 unlocked, you can get a FX 8320 for 169 bucks.

Love the way you use the word it will smash a AMD. But if its AMD over Intel you like the word its just marginal. The fact is most game now are more GPU dependent, with close to the same setups. Unless your running a benchmark most cant even tell the difference.
