Some Upgrade Help

Hey everyone!
I built my pc back in 2010 and spent around 1000euros,i had a good gaming course with that build since now and never had any hardware problem. But with the new exciting games coming out i would like some proper upgrade. But unfortunately i'm not very up-to-date about whats going on hardware these days.So i'd like some advice about what should i keep and what's the best options for me in order not to throw everything away.

My build is:

AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb Quad-Core 3.4GHz

MSI 770-G45 Gaming series

4GB Ram DDR3 Corsair 2x2GB

Ati Radeon HD 5850 1GB GDDR5

500GB HDD

I have all these in a Thermaltake full tower with liquid cooling system on the cpu and 750w power supply

I havent overclock anything as there was any need for this till now

I know i will invest in some SSD and ram ofc but i would like some ideas about what should i do because i cant afford more than 300-400euros of upgrades right now but all ideas are welcome as i can upgrade one thing at a time.

Thanks in advance!!

You are better off getting a better video card. The one you have now is 3 generations old. Get an R9 280 or 280x. What model of power supply do you have?

If you've got a watercooler overclock that chip. My 955, essentially the same chip, I was able to overclock to 4.0GHz without much trouble at all on a 30 dollar air cooler. That will help a good amount.

Crossfire is normally not the best option as in most cases a single more powerful card is preferred. See how much you could sell the 5850 for.

8GB of RAM is a given.

I cant tell really,it says thermaltake 750w toughpower and i think that it came together with the case but thanks anyway!!

thermaltake 750w toughpower!

That would be the model of your power supply. :D

I'd suggest selling the 5850 and get a more powerful single card but your power supply could support it. Also if the 5850 only has 1GB or VRAM that will hurt you. A single 280X is faster than 5850 Crossfire and they can be had for not much more than 200 dollars.

I agree with Darren. 8GB of RAM, try to overclock your CPU, get a newer GPU. A 280X would be a good option, or a GTX 960.

If you can find one cheaply you could upgrade to a Phenom II X6 but try overclocking your X4 first. From memory, some X4s with some motherboards were 'unlockable' so you could actually 'unlock' an extra of pair of cores. You could see if your setup is/was like that but I think the 960T was the best one for unlocking.

If you're still unhappy after that you can replace the CPU and the motherboard with newer components.

I know it's not the most popular video card on this site, as nobody seems to mention it, but the gtx 770 is actually around the same as an R9 280 and better than the gtx 960. I would recommend this as Nvidia cards have more features, like shadowplay which is an excellent in-game recording program, Nvidia shield and in far cry 4 there are advanced graphics features only for Nvidia cards. So I would recommend the GTX 960 or the GTX 770.

Are nvidia cards like gtx 960 compatible with my msi 770 motherboard?Sorry for asking but i remember in the good ol' times when i was spending more time about my pc that it wasn't.
And at last is there a problem if i put a 4gb ram together with 2x2gb that i have already?

Definitely the fist link. That's normally a 300 dollar card, so thats a steal and it will outperform anythibg else you listed.

Where are you getting it from om for 180? That sounds amazing. Aldo, its waaaay overpriced on Amazon for sone reason

Using 2 sticks will give you dual channel capability but if you only use 1 stick of 4 then you can get another stick of 4gb later for 8gb of memory, which should be standard now anyway. Just make sure you buy the another stick of the same speed and timings.
