Somebody help me out!

Hi, first time poster here. Really need some help.

All right then, here's my problem. This happened earlier today, first time. Once I try to type anything into a text field, the computer will lock up. It won't respond to ctrl-alt-del, no mouse, no keyboard. BUT, animations and background processes will continue running, strangely. I can pretty much do anything if I don't touch the keyboard, but if I do, then WHAM! and it locks up. If I only use the mouse, then I'll be fine. I've tried system restore, ran a full scan with AVG and a full scan with Ad-Aware, and none of those helped. I know there is some conflict, but the last thing I did was uninstall Spy Sweeper, so I don't think that's the problem. Please help me! Thanks in advance!

Here are my specs:
Toshiba Satellite P35-S609
3.20 Ghz P4 Processor
896 MB RAM
128MB ATI Radeon 9000
80GB Hard Drive

If you haven't already I would check in Device Manager for any conflicts with the keyboard, and I would run the Toshiba Diagnostics, which should be in your Programs menu or you can download it here

This assumes you are running Windows 2000/XP.

Try different Keyboard? I know it is possible for a Keyboard to stop a computer from booting, to freeze it, so make computer make weird sounds..

It happened too me, my old HP Keyboard did all those.

Ive since upgraded to a Logitech Gaming Keyboard...

That was my initial, first thought, but a Toshiba Satellite is a laptop. It'd be a little expensive to try a different keyboard. :D

Ahhh, sorry mate, didnt realise that... lol, hmm, maybe its a faulty wiring, im not sure if this will work, BUT

Do you have a port in back of lappy for a keyboard? or just the ps/2 mouse...

If you do, try a keyboard in that..

as someone said earlier, you should first check your device manager. you can download the drivers on the toshiba website for your keyboard, and for the input controller. to be honest i am not familiar with the chipset and mobo on most laptops, so i am not sure exactly what the keyboard controller is on your PC, but to me this sounds like a driver issue, which could cause anything from explorer.exe freezing (this would cause the issue you are talking about) to random restarts.

long story short, go to toshiba's website, download the drivers for the keyboard and any other input device drivers you can find and reinstall them. gluck!
