I had a logitech wireless opitical mouse and thought it was going bad so I bought a microsoft wireless laser mouse to replace it. My problem is that the pointer stops responding and freezes. i have to wait two or three minutes before I can proceed with what I'm doing at the time. It even does it with an regular corded mouse. I have run Avast , spybot and adware Pro and they have found nothing. I even did a scan in safe mode still nothing. This is my current system and I'm running XP PRO sp2.

Thanks for replying so fast . Yes I have uninstalled the old mouse drivers and I'm running 81.98 drivers for my video card.

Is the mouse PS2 or USB? Are you using any adaptors? Also, if the new mouse is wireless, new bateries in it?

One more - Have you installed the new mouse drivers?

Does just the curos freeze? can you still move it around you just dont know where because the curus stops moving? to check try moving it a bit and right clicking? I had this problen and it was a virus.

Yes it freezes and you can't do anything. Clicking any button does not help. It takes about 2 to 3 minutes before it reponds again.

you have to disable to option for windows to turn the device of to save power. go into device manager find your mouse click properties and you should find it there.

Just to let everyone know my problem has been solved. I switched to a corded opitical mouse and no more problems. I will never try cordless again. I do appreciate all the help that you gave. This is a great site for people with problems on PC's. I have been to several forums most would not even reply to my problem. I guess it was not that imporant to them. Once again thanks for your help.
