Ok, here is my winter Hijackthis maintenance log. I am not including malwarebytes cause it didn't find anything. My computer runs fine so far, but I'm trying to prevent the "unknown". My computer is fully updated and only I use it. Its stays cool, and isn't carried around. No kids on my computer either, so no limewire on my machine! ha ha ha

I am trying to get file indexing to stop working, and I think I finally got it. That and the Western Digital program to stop running (look for "WD' etc.....")

Oh an that RealSched process, their stupid updater, God! Ive been trying to kill that for ages but while still keeping Real Player, any ideas how to do that. Also I cant seem to fully get rid of Google Toolbar. Any ideas on that as well? (edit addition: I removed Google Toolbar, ages ago. But obviously its still showing up. How to remove the bits...?)

Let me know what you find, whether its virus related or just an odd process to have running. I think I have this computer running as minimally as possible, but while keeping some usability to it.

If you're having trouble removing a program try using Revo Uninstaller (that's the direct download link btw), works every time and cleans up the leftover bits.


Also you're running an old version of HiJackThis please download and post a log with the newest non-beta version.

You can either have hijack this fix these entries or you can use the msconfig utility to stop these processes from running at bootup as they are really not needed. The WD program is for your external drive if you have one attached, it provided more functionality to the external if its running. So you may or may not want to stop that process.

The google toolbar is nice to have, I use it for searches and popup blocker.

Ugh, I put that up last night. An wow was I tired when I ran that scan.

Yeah I figured the program was a little out of date, just didnt mess with it. Lazy I guess, I got HJT about a year ago when I was deleting Norton off my machine (I hate Norton). Oh an yeah, I went into services.msc and msconfig and stopped a few things. I dealt with both of those that you mentioned.

Its just odd that I've stopped realsched so many times. And a few months later its back in Taskmanager running like always. I've nearly stopped messing with stopping it, just more trouble than its worth.

I'll checkout the revo uninstaller, sounds good. I've been meaning to get an uninstall program. I dont put much on this computer, but I like keeping it clean.

It's up to you but I would also stop these entries from running at bootup as well. They can be started manually if need be.

Yeah, I considered stopping those. But I like having them running, as I need the services they offer, and I usually dont have time to wait (or no patience! ha ha ha). It takes very little away from performance, so I'm leaving it for now.

I use Oblivion as a make-shift benchmark for my machine. I can usually set it to near max video quality (No AA) and it runs fast (50fps +/-5), with what I would call great quality. After I killed some of the unnessary processes I noticed that I could run the game longer before the fan kicked on. I think it was another 6 minutes before the fan kicked on as compared to before I cleaned up processes.
