Options then Nvidia then GT8800?

Okay I had a Nvidia GT 8800 512MB, it blow up. So time to get a new one. But i wanted to upgrade. But I don't know what card I should get I was looking around and found http://www.directron.com/vcg951024gxeb.html?gsear=1#caption GeForce 9500GT 1GB. Now for 70.00 that a steal in a way, but will it be worth getting it? I ask because I shopping around an about 100.00 is my limit I'm willing to go, but I like to be cheap so the lower the better. I do Photoshop and gameing. I have Windows 7 4 GB memory and this is my motherboard. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131288 Also I have a 500 watt power supply, so no worry on that end. Let me know what you think, and thanks.

8800GT = 9800GT
9500 GT is a downgrade, not upgrade.

If you only got $100, save it. Card within your budget and faster than 9800GT is GTS 250 512MB. But it not really worth upgrading.

I think the card you should consider is 5770 1GB, which are $130 after rebate

I thought the higher the number the better or newer the card?

The higher first number is the generation number. (9xxx)

The higher second number is what to look for. (x8xx)

The 9500GT is newer than what you had, but it's not better.

Oh I understand now. So from that link you sent me in that list any will do?

I would recommend a GTX460 over a 5770, there is only $20-30 in it, and the performance is near double when overclocked, and about 60-70% more at stock:

the latter would be my choice, but it depends if you have that $10 extra over the other

oh wow, i didn't realize the 768mb ones were so cheap :o i would definitely get one of those then. they outperform the 5770 in most situations.

I like this one better MSI N460GTX Twin Frozr II SOC GeForce GTX 460.
Now is that better then the GIGABYTE GV-R577SO-1GD Radeon HD 577? If so how is it better?

it outperforms the 5770 in almost every situation (in a game), will runs cooler at stock fan speeds, and will only consume slightly more power (negligible).

Yes it is better. It offers much, much better performance. So in games, you will be seeing higher fps at higher settings and higher resolutions. Out of games, if you do any 3D rendering, it will take less time, if you fold, it will generate more PPD and do each WU faster.

It is also smaller, cooler, and does all of this by using only very slightly more power than the 5770 does

Will it be okay with my 500 watts? I don't overclock, as I look in the bios and the system does it automatically.

Even though coolermaster power supplies aren't the best, they aren't all that bad, and should be able to handle it just fine
