Sony Vaio Opinions??

I am thinking of buying a Sony Vaio and giving it upgraded parts myself, instead of buying them from Sony. It is cheaper, any opinions on the Sony Vaio, good or bad?

Thx

about the only things you can upgrade in a laptop are the memory, hard drive, and sometimes the processor. Other than that you're pretty much stuck with that you get.

Yeah, I have an pcv-rx755, and the only thing i can upgrade is the memory, processor, and the harddrive. THe mother boards are made by Asus and are made specifically for Sony, which mean that you cannot just purchase any PSU that you want. Plus, the cases are made so that the PSU, for example, is a smaller size than a normal PSU and if you need a new one, you need to order it though sony. In other words, IMO i would not buy a Vaio if you are thinking you're going to upgrade, cause it's really impossible.

I had a sony vaio with a 2.4 ghz processor, and it was a decent computer.

My HP has been a much better machine overall, although both of them came with a horrendous amount of packaged software.....

That's a huge pet peeve of mine

I hate having to spend an hour or two uninstalling bundled software everytime i use the system restore discs...

what type of sony are you interested in? and can you access the CPU via the bottom of the case? if not, you would have to remove a lot just to upgrade the CPU, might be just wise to just pay for a better CPU when you buy from sony.. i had an inspiron which was under the keyboard and couldnt access via the bottom of the notebook... wasnt a big deal.. i upgraded it from a 1.7 Pentium M to a 1.8 Centirno... it was fairly easy...

I want something to work on networks right now with, yeah, 16 yo and working on small business' networks. I gotta build a system for a biz as seen in desktop computers. I want something powerful, functional, and yet small. Oh, yeah, lightweight price tag, too.

sony vaio? Sony Vaio what? C series? N series? FE series? TX series? SZ series?

quality control has gone down hill...

and good luck trying to reformat the laptop. After you've done so... good luck trying to find available drivers.

sony is crap to be honest.

definitly i bought a sony vaio vgn-a130g for around $1200 it runs my games well but i could of looked a bit more and picked it up for a bit less $

Maxmad, do you ever use punctuation?:P

Sony Vaio's are actually ok, the bottom range laptops are really poor quality but the top end laptops are very good. I would recommend one any day.;)

I'd think twice

I purchased a Vaio in November 06 for about $1200 plus tax. Nothing but problems. Very slow, always crashing or "program not responding." Will not even shut dowm half the time, forcing me to remove the battery. They do have free 12 mos of tech support though, and they are very helpful. Finally after being so frustrated w/ the Vaio I sold it, took a 3rd deposit and went out to buy an Apple. Ordered a Macbook Pro for $1995 plus tax. AWESOME machine!!!!! It just works, smoothly. Doesn't do anything spectacular, just does what it is suppossed to do, and quickly. Everything about it just oozes quality. Only negatives is if you are not familiar w/ Apples it takes a little getting used to and some web sites are geared toward Internet explorer which is not availible for macs since like 03-04. Back to the Vaio, I ended up spillig soda on the keyboard and now the shift and caps lock keys only work w/ the key cover popped off and pressing very firmly and squarely. So I had to refund the depsit and now I have both and I'm broke. Rarely use the Vaio. It's like going from a fancy lexus to a Ford Escort. Anyone have any suggestions about the keys?
