Sony Vaio over heating

A friend of mine has a sony vaio model pcg-61611L that was having issues. It will load windows fine. You can work for a few minutes then it shuts down. When I picked it up off the desk, it was really hot near where the power plug connector is. It will not turn back on until it is completely cool again. As its running, I can feel air being blown out so Iam sure the fan is working fine. It doesn't make any odd noises. I was thinking maybe a power supply issue since it is only hot near the power connector, but I don't know. Any ideas?

Doubt full does the person smoke or have pets

It is probably overheating.

Raise the laptop off the desk its on and put the computer on a large kitchen cooling rack, like this:

Then download and install the following program.
HWMonitor is a temperature/power/battery monitor program. Go here: HWMonitor and click the Download Now button to get the program. Install it then open it as soon as possible and leave it on. After the computer runs for a few minutes to "warm", go to FILE and save a copy of the reading then copy the results and post them in your next post. That computer should almost never go over 45C. If any part goes over 55C turn the computer off right then and say that it happened in your post.

No sonys are not known for this there is pet hair and tar blocking the gills on the laptop needs cleaning away and not with a hoover

Vaio typically do not over heat but I do know that Sony is one of the few companies that make it easy to pull the bottom plate off. buy can of compressed air and remove the bottom plate and give it a good cleaning.
