I am currently a third year Mechanical Engineer major and need a computer to be able to smoothly run CAD Program such as Solidworks as well as other engineering programs like Matlab. I was wondering which would be the best computer to invest money on if I will be using the computer for these programs. Please explain why. I have done a lot of research on all three compt.

Sony Vaio S series or Sony Vaio Z series or Lenovo x1

Well actually as long as it is below $2000 it will work. Reason I liked the Sony Vaio Z as well as the Lenovo x1 is because of the Solid State Drive. As well as both running an i5 processor.

NEEDS

-The computer must for sure be 13 inch aprox (portable to carry around campus)
-light up keyboard

USES

Handle programs such as:
-CAD programs (solidworks, pro-e, catia etc.)
-Matlab Computing Software
-music
-photoshop
-Microsoft Office
-browsing web

Thanks in advance for any input :)

My buddy actually has that same asus comp. He does tell me its fast but i personally wanted to go with something more durable and easier to carry with me while traveling and carrying around just in general. So i went with the lenovo x1 with i5 and 160 gb ssd. Im pretty excited for it :-) thanks for the recomendations though

I am running Cad on Sony Vaio FZ since last year.Cad programs are running smoothly on it.It is the best.I would recommend the same to you .
