Sony Vaio

To Whom It May concern,

On February 10th of 2007 I bought a brand new Sony Vaio Computer for around 1300 USD at a local Best Buy in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I was told that I didn't need the extended warranty with this computer because it came with a one year manufacturers warranty. At first the computer was great.. it did wonders for my personal Business that I run and I was thoroughly impressed with the Sony Vaio running on Vista. I used it sporatically during the past two months and when I did it was for Business use only. On April 14th I set my computer down on my bed to go to the rest room. When I came back the screen was filtered with pixels running horizontally and vertically along the screen. When I adjusted the monitor the pixels would go away shortly and then come back and make the screen more cluttered. The computer was definately disabled and I could no longer use it. I called Sony Support the very next day and the gentlemen that I spoke to was very reassuring that everything would be fine. He said that my computer definately qualifies to have someone come to my house and look at it. He gave me a number to call the next day which I did and they said that instead of them coming out, they would send a box to me and I would mail it to San Diego, California. Again.. fine with me, as long as my computer could get fixed. A few days later I recieved an email from Sony saying that my estimate was done and that I would have to pay $758 USD to have my computer repaired, the labor costs.. and the cost of shipping. I was appauled to say the least. I immediately emailed them back.. and never recieved a response. I called them the very next day ( Thankfully they tried calling me ) and they said that the Manufacturers warranty doesnt cover human error. They said that I caused damage to my computer and thats why it didnt work anymore. I basically laughed in frustration at the allegations brought against me. After the lady side-stepped me for a good while she said that Sony Repair center would call me the next day and tell me why I would have to pay 800 dollars to get my computer fixed. First off, I bought an HP 2 years ago and I had almost the same exact thing happen to my computer ( pixels running horizontally and vertically) and they fixed my computer without incident under the manufacturers warranty. Anyways, I was out of town for the past few days but Sony is refusing to fix my computer that I allegedly damaged externally.. even though I know that there was no damage done to my computer via human error. It appears to me that Sony doesn't want to honor warrantys and I can honestly say I will never purchase another Sony product in my life.

Thats awful, I myself am in the middle of a tech support nightmare with Dell, It's really quite frustrating!

That sucks, and not to add any more fire to the existing flames but I used to work for a warranty service provider that did warranty work on Sony computers. They are a horrible company to deal with period, even if you are support their product for them. They want to call everything abuse, and their comptuers really aren't that great IMO.

So, it just all of the sudden had a bunch of bad pixels or did the video completely go out? They would only not cover this under warranty if:

1) There were too few pixels dead - warranties only cover the screen if there are multiple pixels dead that is standard

2) It has signs of abuse, like it had been dropped or liquid damage

Otherwise they should cover it if it is hardware failure.
