This computer was donated to me today so i reformatted it and everything installed fine accept one little thing the PCI Modem which is part of the wireless I have tried everything on sony's site and nothing works in the device manager it shows pci modem with the good old yellow ? next to it... Any suggestions? Its a LAN-Express IEEEE 802.11 PCI Adapter... It installed everything fine and when i try to connect to a network like my homewireless ti says Windows is unable to connect to the selected network. The network may no longer be in range. Please refresh the list of available networks, and try to connect again. My problem is I am on this network right now on my other laptop and its working fine. Please help me...

Just an update it also keeps asking me to insert disk 1 that contains the file WinXP\AmPsmNic.cat

that's a driver file. I don't know excactly for what. I would try removing the drivers for it and reinstalling them with the driver cd or recover cd sony gave you with it (i hope).

sony didnt give me anything as i inherited this laptop for free and i have installed their drivers over 10 times from their websites...

It worked fine before i reformatted it and there is that pci modem in hte device manager that has to have something to do with it...

that's just a modem. Probably nothing to do with it... you could try calling Sony and ask if they send you a new driver cd... even through you didn't buy it from them directly they might just do it.

lol well wouldnt the cd simply have whats already on their website for this model... the wireless says its installed it just wont connect...

yea well it was just an idea... then you can install the wireless from within windows and let windows search the cd maybe that helps you never know

Anyone else have a suggestion? The wireless is installed and i set it up to access my network it just wont now its very strange...
