I purchased my computer with 1GB of RAM and Vista OS, for about a year I ran that averaging about 430MB of used RAM and the rest was open for me to use.
About 2 months ago I bought 2GB of extra RAM (best thing ever, I highly suggest it) and today I realized Vista is averaging 1077MB used RAM, thats like 600MB more! My computer habits have not changed, is it possible it saw extra room and just freaken ate it or something?

Superfetch loads programs often used into memory, just because it is "using" more, doesnt mean a whole lot. If a program needs more memory it will allocate memory to that program.

The more memory you have the more memory your computer will use. My system uses about 1.5GB ram doing nothing, and I have 4GB of memory.

well vista does take alot of memmory that's for sure anyone running it should have at least 1gig ram.

i have been working on windows 7. RC it's the same way
anyone install it i recommend at least 1gig or more ram and alocate a min of 20gig space for it since it does take almost 17gig after the install.

I have Vista x64 with 6Gb of DDR3 RAM.

That's good advice, but your install is that big because you probably installed it
over an old copy of Windows.?

In that case, it saves all critical data to a folder on the C: drive called "Windows Old".
Just in case you forgot to back up My Documents and such.

On Vista x64 and Crysis and a few small processes running in the background I was using about ~1.8 gb. 2gb is the least you should have nowadays. Most computer entusiasts will recommend 4gb though 2gb will be sufficient for basic stuff.
