Hi
I started this thread and im sorry for taking so long to add my hardware details. So here they are and thank you for all the information!

Well i bought a Dell off eBay, its a Optiplex 745 with a Intel Core 2 Duo at 1.80 GHz, 2.00GB of RAM, 80GB HDD and 32-bit Operating System which now is Vista. I decided to get Vista and im fine with it but it does take a bit long to start up and the thing is i dont play computer games or watch HD movies or anything like that so its fine with me. The thing is tho, it didnt come with a Vista disk so if i ever had to reformat, i would have to use my Win XP disk. So i was just wondering if down the track i should reload Win XP, or use the installed Vista?. Does anyone have any experience with using Vista with similar Hardware specs?

Thanks alot!

2gb of ram is low for vista. XP I would forget about as its end of life is next month so no more support. I would actually upgrade to 4gb and install windows 7.

If you don't want to upgrade the RAM 32 Bit Windows 7 would be fine. Downside to 32 Bit is a lot of software vendors are now only supporting 64 Bit operating systems.

2GB of RAM is actually alright for Vista (I ran it on 2GB of RAM quite happily for years) but I would agree with the above and installing 7 and possibly upgrading your RAM to 4GB.

Have you ever ran Vista on 2GB of RAM? Because I have, and it worked fine. On the 2 or 3 systems I've used. I think you forget, 2GB would be mid range in 2007, so you're telling me Vista had high end requirements (4GB)? Also, that Optiplex has VERY similar specs to one of the systems I've used. Worked like a charm with Vista, Aero, and worked fine for browsing the web with Chrome.

Also, I ran W7 on a different system with 2GB, and it also worked great.

People rag on Vista cause of how it was prior to SP1, old feelings die hard. Though as mentioned by all of us if your going to install any operating system then with only 2 GB I would recommend Windows 7 32 Bit
