Hi All,

I am using pentium 4 processor 3.06 GHz, one 2GB Ram and one 512MB Ram and 80GB Hard disk. As i am using one 2GB Ram i don have any problem with speed. But whenever i start the system, there is huge noise coming from my cpu that sounds like over speed of fan. How can i cut that sound without affecting my system performance? :)

Is the CPU fan clogged with dust? Maybe the bearing is going bad? Hard to tell without seeing how it looks or hearing what it sounds like. If you could provide more details that would help out better.

On my mums computer, if I remove a rear fan that is also plugged into the mobo, (like how I had to when I changed the case,) the single fan runs up to speeds of 4000RPM! The system after a few minutes simultaneously shuts down and plays the Mobo overheat error sound. Once I put the other fan back in, the CPU fan ran at 2000rpm, the same speed as what the rear fan ran at and lo-behold - no overheating! So maybe, if your mobo supports it, get a case with a slot for a rear fan, and purchase a fan that plugs into the rear/front fan slots on the mobo. Also, check if you have vista or windows 7, that your CPU performance power settings are set to active, not passive.

Hope this helps.

Had the same sort of issue with a HP dx2200 PC of the same sort of spec as your's. You need to take off the CPU cooler, spray compressed air into it to remove all the dust, then reapply thermal paste on your CPU, then put the cooler back on. That's how I solved this issue.
