sp2 file missing

I recently installed sp2 on my labtop. All seemed to install fine, but after my computer restarted, it came up with an error message saying \system32\ntoskrnl.exe could not be found reinstall file blah blah blah. I have a sp2 cdrom disk but I can't get that to install because of the error message. How can I get around the message and reinstall sp2? Also, what is that file that seems to be missing and why?
 
I have the basic windows xp home startup with one user. If this is not what you are talking about, can you please explain in further detail?
 
yea that was what i was on about, one of them changes the file thats missing. do you have a windows xp cd, if so id suggest doing a repair
 
Either that or search the net for that exact file. See if there is anywhere you can download it from. I am not sure if it will require any other DLL files though.
