Speed of wireless broadband/3g?

So i've just ordered a wireless broadband plan. 8gb of downloads a month...\

anyway, when comparing plans i saw that the speed was rated at 3.6mbps. on various other pages it was said to be 3G and Wireless Broadband.

What's the difference, if any? And what is the average latency of these connection(s)?

the plan comes with a USB modem (like a wireless adapter) and i've heard people saying that pings are in the 200-300ms range. anyone got any experience with this?

cheers.

By the way I'm in australia so speed comparisons from here only would be a plus, thanks!

You'd probably be better off looking at reviews of the specific service that you've subscribed to. 3G connection quality varies depending on the carrier and the level of service that they offer.

Well I'm in the city so the connection should be good. If the speed is not good i'll just cancel the plan.

My phone will dl at 1.5mbps . And sometimes I hit over 2mbps according to my software. I can chew up 5 gigs in a couple of days if I want to.
My other wireless I can chew up near 20 gigs in a day

Alright cool, thanks for the help. If you didn't guess it already this is a dedicated USB modem for the computer/laptop, not a phone plan  so i imagine the signal will be much stronger. if it matters it is with Vodafone, this is the plan:

EDIT: I was comparing here:

See how some plans are "3.6mbps" while some are "3g" and others are "3G broadband" I'm guessing they're all the same thing.

I'm not sure about Australia, but it does depend on the provider. With AT&T on a good day with full 3G I would get around 1.5-2Mbps, and with Verizon I get around 768K-1.5Mbps.

The issue with gaming is that the connection isn't stable, and there are a lot of drops, which is fine for web pages because they will just re-download what it needs, not so great for games. I played TF2 over my 3G connection and my ping was about 150-250ms, but it would play fine for 30 seconds, then freeze for a few seconds, play again, freeze, then eventually it lost connection to the game. I would not hope on being able to play games, at least FPS/racing games over 3G.

I don't plan on playing any games, just being able to download games off steam and use the internet properly is all i need.

I'd be careful, most of the games on steam are several GB, with your 8GB cap you will easily go over if you aren't careful.

Yeah, thats why I'm going to get my brother to make some backup discs and send them out to me. he's got many of the games i plan to buy.

They tried to deliver today, at midday while i was at school

Well i rung them up and explained my situation, they said to track it online and ring them again around 4pm and they will see if they can deliver again today! :D

Besides being able to use my phone as a modem Verizon,
I have another provider that is a dedicated wireless ISP.
In the last 2 days I used 44 gigs of bandwidth.
