hi i kno this is a general q, i have visited google many times and there were too mnay options, so i have to come to this resort : anyone kno how to make a start up / shut down happen faster? thanks very much.

windows vista ? is that what u meant?

how fast is your pc......like how much ram,cpu speed etc.

right click on "My computer and click "properties"

that should give you basic info.

you might just need to give your system a good defrag.

well because your running Vista 1Gb isnt enough it will always be slow unless you upgrade and get more ram.

all i can recomend is do the following:

go to Start, and type in the search box ...Msconfig and press enter.

have a look on Services and startup and untick any things you dont need to start with your computer.

apply changes and restart.

i always have to do that with a fresh instal because Office starts up,adobe reader does and theyre just not needed and using memory.

also download this and defrag

so after playing with the msconfig thing, it appeared that "the audio service is not running" i dont kno which one that is that i have unchecked from the list. help

btw, how do you upgrade the ram?

audio service is not running? can you hear sound then?

In "Services" you can disable the following:

Fax
Windows event log (Unless you want this running)
Task Scheduler
Windows error reporting service
Windows defender (i disable this, its useless anyway)
Perental controls

And to upgrade your ram you would need to open the back of the laptop up,usualy a little plastic bay and you can access the ram from there.

2Gb would be best.
