Speeding up my computer- defraging

I have three hard drives on my laptop- C,D and E. I couldn't defrag C cos there was less than 15% free space on the C drive. Is most importantto defrag the C drive? I moved itunes with all my music and myphotos from C to D and E then started to defrag. I cut and pasted them.

A program fragmented will take marginally longer to get to the state that it can run.
Data that is fragmented will take marginally longer to load into the program that runs it.
So all hard drives should benefit from a defrag, whether it is the C: drive with your programs or D: and E: with your data.

Another reason for keeping files defragged is that if you have a crash, files in one piece are more likely to be recoverable.

There are alternatives to the Windows defragger, both freeware and payware. I use payware PerfectDisk which can defrag with only 1% of free space. There are a number of freeware utilities including Defraggler by the folk who brought us CCleaner but I have not used it. I'm guessing it's more flexible than the Windows one. Perhaps someone else can recommend a low free-space freeware defragger?

I would use CCleaner and Defraggler/Auslogics Disk Defrag to clean out the system and keep performance up.
