Spilt water on the keyboard...

.Yesterday .I accidentally toppled a bottle of bottled water all over my laptop keyboard. .I wiped it off and turned the computer around, pouring out as much as possible. .After that, the keys have been very troublesome. .For instance, the .Right.Shift button makes dots when pressed, as you can see here, while the .Left.Shift does "´´´´´". .Some buttons seem to log me off, while others minimise the window, open new ones, or make the cursor jump around. .This makes it nigh-impossible to write. .I asked a friend, who said it might solve itself once the water evaporates. .And true, the problems seem to be somewhat fewer than last night, but some of the persist. .Like the ..Right.Shift dot problem.

.Any ideas.? .Should .I just let it be for a while longer and see what happens, or should .I turn it over to a professional and see what can be done.?

.Any help will be appreicated.

.I'm never going to drink anything at my laptop again, heh. :(

Thats not good at all. The laptop may be ruined now. I doubt anybody will even look at it to be honest with water damage. And if they do, will cost a decent amount of money.

Your best bet would be to dry up as much as possible with a hair dryer on low settings and then let it sit for a few days to continue drying out before turning it on.

Thanks for the reply, I'll try that should it ever happen again. I hope it won't.

I left it in a sunny window all day and nothing seems to be damaged. The keyboard problem no longer persist! Shift and the other buttons work just as they should. Guess I was very lucky.

Thanks!

Anytime you get water in/on anything electronic the first you thing you should do is remove the power supply. For a laptop this means unplugging and removing the battery. You should let it sit until the water is completely gone, we're talking days (obviously the longer you wait the more sure you'll be all the water is gone).

Also if the device is small enough (like a cell phone) put it in a giant bowl of dry rice. The rice will suck the moisture out of it.
